Adam and Kellie Thomas run Delamak Kelpies on Hill Padua, a 10,000-hectare cropping and sheep property 330km north of Perth. Between 4,000 hectares of cropping and 3,200 Multi-Purpose Merino ewes, there’s no shortage of real work for a dog to prove itself on: mustering, yard drafting, classing and twice-yearly shearing.
Registered with the Working Kelpie Council of Australia since 2008, Delamak breeds from a small, carefully chosen nucleus of dogs carrying prominent bloodlines, including National Champions. Every mating is a considered decision, not a convenient one.
Plenty of studs lean on bloodline alone. Delamak dogs earn their reputation the hard way, tested daily on a working 10,000-hectare operation where mustering, yarding and shed work happen every single day. That means the dog you take home already knows what real work looks like.
Temperament gets the same attention as ability. Adam and Kellie breed dogs for their own family’s farm, so every pup is selected to be steady with the kids and capable in the paddock, a genuine balance rather than a trade-off.
